Virginia's Story
I guess I've never been happier then now. Being back in Florida across from the ocean was my wish for the 29 long years I had to be high in the North Carolina mountains. It's a great place to visit but living there through long, dismal, cold winters and having to work everyday an hour down the dangerous, curvy roads was rough. But, enough of that, here I am.
As the song goes, "I've lived, I've laughed, I've cried,
I did it ("My Way"), no, I did it my husbands way. Yes, I'm from the old school for better or worse. I went where my husband needed me to go. Opportunities were slim so I got my post-grad degree in Speech Disorders so I could find a decent job in the geographic area where my husband was Director of Bands. I only got to sing two years in a great 6 piece band. Then, I finally (15 yrs. of marriage and 2 beautiful adopted children later) got pregnant.
What I am most proud of, are my 3 wonderful children. We must have done something right.
I put my whole life into my family and I hope it shows. If there is one thing I've learned it is that in this life you can't have everything. Life is a "trade-off" for most of us. I chose the family route. I've gotten to sing far less then I may have wanted to, but I've got wonderful children that have made something of their lives and that love me. nd I was the best mother he could have I told him that was better than a Grammy. And, I meant it. I have supported my husband in his career and enabled him to be the successful man he became. As I look back I believe I gave alot, maybe too much, but it wouldn't have worked any other way. Now, God has given me the opportunity to sing with a wonderful 20 piece Big Band. I'm another Doris Day. For me, this is a dream come true because "standards" are my favorite music to sing.
On a lighter note, I'm a good fisherperson. I even clean the fish! I bike and workout. We love to travel abroad and are always planning visits to specific European locations. We rent a car and really explore the area. Sometimes I think a cruise would be easier but you really don't get to know an area well that way. My picture is on the Amalfi Coast this past October '07. This Summer we're going Grand Circle Riverboating down the Rhine from Prague. Vienna, and th en Budapest. This 2010 we will do Oceania to Istanbul and the Greek Isles. In June 2011 we're off on a transatlantic to Bermude, Azores and Spain. I have an adorable almost 4 yr. old grandson and our David is expecting the end of April. I'm so excited about that! I'm happiest when I sing so I'm going to do that right now.
Bye.
In 10 years, I hope to be working with baby elephants.. I'm going to get there by airplane.
